be a servant

Up, reading Matthew 23. Around the 11-12 verses it says, “Do you want to stand out? Then step down. Be a servant. If you puff yourself up, you’ll get the wind knocked out of you. But if you’re content to simply be yourself, your life will count for plenty.” (Msg Bible paraphrase) Being a servant is counter-intuitive to human nature. There is something in the flesh that always wants to stand out, be affirmed, recognized, honored and be important. But there is nothing more important than serving. And the image that this word conjures up tends to be places of low position. But, having a servant’s heart will effect your heart’s motives, no matter what your position in life is, CEO, attorney, physician, accountant, musician, worship leader, recording artist, student, janitor, pastor, sound technician, politician, record executive, teacher, evangelist, spouse, parent or friend. Just imagine how meaningful our lives will be if everything we do comes from the motivation of serving others. Jesus said that the greatest among you will be your servant. Be blessed. 🙂
